Turin Chocolate Museum

Turin, Italy [2018]

Turin is an austere and rigorous city which owes its identity to a long historical process. The geometry of the Turin Chocolate Museum is linear and aims to harmoniously adapt to the orthogonal grid of the urban structure.

The building has a clean design with a courtyard in the centre; the internal public void becomes a transitional space between the city and the museum: a square with a slight slope guides visitors towards the entrance to the foyer, bar and auditorium on the underground floor. The artisan workshops and exhibition rooms are instead arranged on the upper floors.

As well as functionally, the three floors are also distinguished on a formal level: the ground floor externally imposes itself as a concrete strong base, the first floor is fully glazed to establish a connection between inside and outside; the last level is hermetic, closed thanks to a gilded coating made of metal plates, a ventilated facade reminiscent of the paper of a chocolate.
